BodyMotionMovement is my evolving series — photographs that celebrate the core basis of all movement, the athleticism and grace of pure mechanics, and the aestheticism of the bodies that develops as a byproduct. Additionally, I try presenting each image with some element of engagement, usually using a combination of being abstract, dynamic, and informative, in a manner that provokes or emphasizes. My pictures show individuals engaged in disciplines that emphasize mastery of what I refer to as the core movement components: strength, balance, and bodily-spatial awareness. Different disciplines emphasis different components and, simultaneously, all disciplines require a combination of the three. It is the development and combining of these components that allows the Body, the Motion, and the Movement this series celebrates. Underpinnings for this series were set in 2001 as I photographed the choreography and rehearsal process of a dance performance project in Jacksonville. Since then, I have expanded it to incorporate a sport I love and with which I am involved, Track and Field. Undoubtedly, it will continue expanding in various directions; I look forward to rolling with it and seeing what passes through the Camera. BodyMotionMovement truly becomes a symbiosis between Art and Athleticism. | ||
